Pontiac Repair: Instrument panel lights going haywire, yellow fuzz, best guess

Question
I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT.  The other day the car's instrument panel lights went haywire.  Everything flashing, radio kicking out the cd and trunk release opening.  When trying to start it after the key was in off position things would still go haywire for a bit before stopping. Car then would not start.  Finally after putzing around with it it started.  I got it home and it did the same thing the next day.  Some one suggested a bad battery. I am worried about this happening again since this is my young daughters car.

Answer
Hey Blair:

Yes it sounds likea power issue or lack there of. these cars has problems with the (+) battery terminal leaking acid out into the cable and casue all kinds of issues, take a look at the cables it's very obvious if that the case the cable at the battery will have a greenish yellow fuzz all over it "corrosion" The next best guess wuld be a bad ignition switch if the car has a lot of miles on it that would be my second guess. My last guess would be a bad body control module or connection to the module. I have seen the modules of these cars fill up with water out of the heater and A/C box and cause a lot of funky issues as well. Good luck :}
