Pontiac Repair: 94 grand am, rear brakes, wheel cylinder

Question
This just started happening today, when I stepped on the brakes, it sounded like a loud banging noise twice, no change in car performance, then I stepped on the brakes again and same thing, after the second time it stopped. Once I was home had to go out again when I left home it was fine when I braked, but then car sat for couple hours returning home first time I stepped on brake, it made the same noise twice and then stopped again. I have never heard of this before, it's not a clunking or metally noise more like a loud bang.

Answer
Hi Sharon:

Good question. Does it sound like it's comming from the front or the raer? the rear brakes on thse cars have a tendency to grab and make noise the first few stops cold. you could have an issue where you have rear wheel cylinder leaking and getting the shoes wet with brake fluid and they that nice would be magnified. what ever it may be you should get it checked out brake noises and issues should not be overlooked. You could have something in the suspensiuon that's loose and when you step on the brake it makes that banging noise. Noises are hard to find and soemtimes they are not as easy to figure out as you may think they should be.  good luck :}
