Pontiac Repair: Pontiac Grand Prix 1997 3.8 Coupe, pontiac grand prix, window button

Question
Couple things have gone wrong with the car lately. First, the passenger window won't go up. I found a temp fix, and that was to put your fingernail under the passenger window button and push with a "forward and downwards" force. That worked until somebody used a key rather than a nail and popped it off. I was wondering if you knew possible causes for that problem. Secondly, during midsummer, I tried to turn my AC on and even with the AC light on, all I was getting was air that was the same temp. as the outside. I was wondering if you had a solution to getting that fixed as well.

Answer
Hi Michael:

For the window I think it just needs a new switch simple fix. As for the A/C it can be a lot of things but more times than not it's out of refridgerant in the system. they sell refill kits at autoparts stores if your adventerious enough to try it. Find one that has a tracer dye in it that way when it runs out again the dye will leave a fingerprint  clue as to where the leak is. These cars are noted for condensers and evaporator cores leaking. Most likely a condenser the leak on the left lower corner most of the time. It could also be an electrical issue to like the compressor will not turn on other then it will not turn on because it's out of refirdgerant. good luck :}
