Pontiac Repair: 2000 pontiac grand prix gtp, honey comb, pontiac grand prix

Question
QUESTION: i am haveing a few problems with my 2000 pontiac grand prix gtp. It has the 3800 supercharged engine.  the car died the other day, so i went ahead and replaced all the coil packs, spark plugs, wires, and while i was at it i replaced the o2 sensor.  the car will start and run for about 2 seconds and then it will die.  i checked for fuel presure at the relief valve and there seems to be presure.  do you have any other ideas as to what it could be?  thanks alot,  david

ANSWER: Hi
It sounds VERY much like the security system has got it in fuel disable mode.
The cranking and running for 2 seconds is the MO of this system.
Observe the security light on dash....
is it On steady, on, blinking or on for about 7 seconds then off?
If the latter, it is NOT the VTD system.
If either of the first 2 then it IS the security system and it will need to be relearned, and then diagnosed and faulty part repalced.

ANSWER: Hi
Ok it's not teh VTD system.....

I will have to say then the fuel presssure will need to be checked.
Specs are 48-55 psi.

QUESTION: Ok depending on the psi test, does the battery light staying on has anything to do with it or the smell that I am getting? The catalytic converter seems fine, I mean no rattling noise when I hit it just a little. You know to check to see if the honey comb filter inside has broken loose.

Thank you so much, because we are at a loss. Paula

Answer
Hi
The battery light staying on for 4-7 seconds of run time could be normal at this time. If it stays on after stalling that would be a normal condition.
The smell, hard to say.... Not being funny but I'd have to smell it, you know.
Re-reading all your previous posts, I would
1) Have fuel pressure checked.
2) check the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose for fuel presence... if there is ANY liquid fuel in vacuum hose, the regulator HAS failed.
3)Are you getting spark? You replaced the coils, etc...but is spark present at all times?
You MAY be loosing the crankshaft position sensor signal.
I really feel like though your dealing with a fuel issue.
Either Low pressure or it is possible to get water in fuel.
It will cause similar problems.
USUALLY when the cat fails, it will mostly act up more so under heavy LOAD, while driving.
Is there black smoke from tailpipe? If so it is rich
rich = too much fuel or not enough air (cold spark)
Is it white smoke? White is lean..
Lean - Too much air, or not enough fuel (hot spark)
I'll be here to assist more if needed.
Good Luck
