Pontiac Repair: radio Display, pontiac bonneville, illumination lights

Question
QUESTION: 1997 Pontiac Bonneville SE....3.8 naturally aspirated.....My radio display does not work....the illumination lights work just no station display...I know its not the radio because I changed that already.....thanks....Danny

ANSWER: Hi Danny:

does the radio work? can you change channels okay? does it have memory? meaning if you have on station 99.9 fm and you turn the car off and back on is that station still there or does it goto a different one? i know you can't see the display but 99.9 could be any station that works. what i'm getting at is that radio has 2 power feeds to it if one feed is missing eg. blown fues the display could be inop and it would loose it's memory when you shut off the car. if you have 2 battery power feeds with the key on and a good ground and the display still doesn't work then you have another bad radio. good luck :}

QUESTION: yes, the radio works, it was taken out of my friends Pontiac and it worked well in his car...it remembers the stations, just no station display

Answer
If the radio's are not the same meaning if they are not both out of a 97 bonneville SE and have the same part# just because they look the same doesn't man that the internal workings are the same. Try a nother radio from a junk yard and make sure it's the same part # and see what happens. 9 out od 10 times it's a internal radio issue like the origianl one in your car I can't tell you about the one you tried....
