Pontiac Repair: Car Overheating, pontiac bonneville ssei, pontiac bonneville

Question
I have a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi with 140,000 miles on it.  I have replaced the thermostat and the waterpump.  The car will overheat of I don't rev the engine to bring the temp down.  From what I can tell, the two fans behind the radiator do not turn on at all.  Any ideas?  From what I've read, there is a fan relay somewhere near the firewall, but I'm not sure what to look for to see if maybe that is the culprit.

Answer
Yes it could be the issue the relays are under a plastic cover on the fire wall ther are about 6 or more of them. depending on the configuration of this car also under that cover is a bunch of fusable lins or big maxi fues. One of them may have blown if it's fuses on this car or the fuseable link burnt up I don't remember what they have on that year. the cover on the fuses is maked as to which one is for what device. if one is blown then you may have a bad motor in one of the fans that made the fuse blow or a rubbed through wire somewhere. Look at the color of the wires on the fan/fans and then look at the colors of the wires goin into the relays. when you find the match try swaping the relay with another one under that cover as long as the part # on the relay is the same it will work. You could also have a problem with the engine computer it turns on the relay which in turn runs the fans but with out a scan tool you can't tell what is going on. The temp sensor may be bad and reading a cooler temp then what the engine is running at and it will never turn on the fans. just a few ideas. Good luck :}
