Pontiac Repair: service engine soon light, computer controlled systems, olds alero

Question
I have a 2004 Olds Alero with a 4cyl.and auto trans. It has just over 91000 miles. Just this morning the service engine soon light came on. It seems to be running fine. Is there something that should be done and if so how soon.

Answer
Hi
My BEST advice would be to take it to either a nationwide repair shop (Meineke, Midas, Pepboys, etc...) or Parts chain (Autozone, Advance, NAPA, etc...) and have the computer system scanned for codes.
MOST of these places offer this as a free service (or reduced labor rate)
The problem can then be properly diagnosed and repaired.
There are MANY computer controlled systems that can turn on the service Engine Soon light.
Thats what should be done....
How soon...
As long as the light is not blinking, you are not damaging any component.
If it is blinking, have it checked ASAP...otherwise I wouldn't wait forever, but Monday, if places are open in your area or Wedensday should be OK.
If it happens to turn off, consider taking it in anyways...the code stores in memory.
I Hope this helps
