Pontiac Repair: 1998 Bonneville Interior Lights Will Not Go Out, minute timer, window switch

Question
We have a 1998 SLE with the natually aspirated 3.8L engine.  With the doors closed and the engine running, the interior lights will not go out.  This occurs intermittently.  At first, we could sometimes get them to turn off if we opened and closed the driver's door (but did not always work).  The lights will turn off after the 10 minute timer delay turns them off after the car has been shut off.  But here's the strange thing, my son discovered if he cycles the window up button enough times (doors closed and car running) the lights will fade to off as they should and the door lock actuators will activate (even though the doors are already locked).  Cycling the window up button from any door seems to work and it appears to work every time we try it.  In addition, (this may not be related), for years, on a very infrequest basis, when we would open the doors to get out, the interior lights would delay before coming on.  I have seen similar problems posted here but I am not sure which fix would apply to our situation.  Thanks for volunteering your time.

Answer
Hi Bruce:

It could be a bad mall/rap module or a bad ground to either of those modules. My guess is there is a ground issue going to that door that the window switch makes it work correctly. It's really hard to say for sure you may just have a bad switch on that door lock. or on the handle if the car has illuminated entry it's it's a sse or ssei equiped car. Im just answered a similar question today on a 97 bonneville look through the past questions I advised him how to check for a bad ground to the module or modules. Good luck and happy holidays :)
