Pontiac Repair: pontiac theft deterent, theft deterrent system, pontiac grand am

Question
I have a 99 Pontiac Grand Am 2.4L that set its theft deterrent system in both modules according to local dealership. The dealership reprogrammed, did not replace any parts. There was no evidence that the car was tampered with or entered. The dealership tells me that the theft deterrent system can set if someone toys with the outside door latches. Is this true? Can anyone disable a Grand Am by toggling the outside door latches? If true PLEASE tell me how to disable this dumb idea. I have grandchildren and people at work know about this and will surely do it.

Answer
Hey  Calvin:

Tampering with thjis car is not the issue at hand here. this car has a system called pass lock. there is a sensor inside the ignition lock housing either that sensor is bad in the housing or there is an issue with the body control module. when you turn the key on to crank that sensor sends a signal to the body computer to let the car start. it's about 90% lock housing 10% body computer as to the problem.  I would have your repair shop look at the body control module just to make sure it doesn't have any corrosion in the connector to it. sometimes the heater box leaks water into this module and causes the issue. most of the time the lock housing goes bad and that will fix it. there are ways to bypass this but it causes issues down the road so get it fixed properly. I take it wh it will not start is starts and stalls and the security lamp is either on steady or is flashing. Good luck :)
