ANSWER: Hi
If the head gasket is failed, it is likely that the vehicle is loosing compression. If this is the case, it will not start.

QUESTION: I forgot to mention it's a 2000 Sunfire, and this happened a couple times before the head gasket went?

Answer
Hi
Whats the "theft" or "security" light doing?
Is in on steady, on for about 7 seconds then off, or on and blinking?
If it is on and blinking, try this.....
Turn key to run  the system enters the long tamper mode, ensure that the system completes a long tamper mode cycle. During the long tamper mode cycle, the THEFT indicator will flash for the full 10 minutes. The instrument cluster and the PCM require the full 10 minutes in order to complete the learn cycle. Ensure that the ignition switch remains in RUN until the indicator stops flashing. If you turn the ignition switch before the indicator stops flashing, ensure that you repeat the long tamper cycle from the beginning.

Hope this helps
