Pontiac Repair: 92 Pontiac Bonneville security system (I think?), pontiac bonneville, friend pam

Question
My friend Pam just bought a 92 Bonneville (3.8 liter engine) on Friday. It started and ran fine. She stayed at my house that night and when she went to go to work yesterday, she opened the passenger door to load her car and all the interior and exterior lights started flashing intermittently and then stopped and repeated. Lasted for about 30 seconds after all the doors were closed. Battery will not turn over, not taking a jump, etc. All the fuses have been checked and replaced. Someone took poor care of the car so things are jumbled. I thought perhaps it may be the security system (which the light was ON when she bought the car) and it signaled the computer not to work or something? When I bypassed a wire and put it to the battery (yes the previous owner has loose wires everywhere), there was spark and it tried to turn. Traced this wire to someone splicing it on the starter wire. Could the security system be the problem and if so, what do I do to disable this or reset it so she can drive this and not do it again?

Answer
Hi Renee:

I take it this is more than likely a SSE or SSEI bonneville? these has all kinds of issues with the switches on the door andles and the door lock latches. They would cause all kinds of issues with lights staying on to the horn sounding in the middle of the night etc. I would go from door to doo and unplug the connectors to the switches and see which one is the culprit. As for it not starting yes the factory secuity system is tied into that but if this had some kind of aftermaket remote starter or alarm it adds a whole nother dimension to this and it could be just about anything that was cut or spliced into this car. That part I can't help you out with without seeing. Good luck :)
