Pontiac Repair: SWITCHING ENGINES, upper intake manifold, grand prix 4

Question
QUESTION: I WANT TO KNOW WILL MY 3.1 1993 GRAND PRIX SE 4-DOOR MOTOR WILL FIT A 1997 OR 1998 GRAND PRIX 4-DOOR 3100, AND ALL I HAVE TO DO IS CHANGE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD

ANSWER: Hey Leda:
No the 3.1 V6 and the 3100 V6 are 2 different engines The block may be very similar and it would blot up but the complete top of the engine is different manifolds heads and all of the electronics are different. So not they are not interchangeable. You need to find a 3100 engine for a "W" body car to fit into that car. Century, lumina, monte carlo, regal etc... Good luck :)

QUESTION: SO IF THE 1998 LUMINA HAS A W AND A 3100 IT WILL FIT AND I WOULDN'T NEED TO CHANGE THE MANIFOLD OR DO I HAVE TO STICK WITH THE SAME YEARS

Answer
No "W" is the body designation from Gm A "W" body is a Lumina,Grand Prix,Regal,Century they are all "W" body cars the 3100 engine the VIN designation is an "M" engine. meaning the 8'th digit in the Vehicle identification number is what engine that car is equiped with. So I would tell you to find a "M" engine from the same year car to swap to what your looking for. You may still need to swap out the fuel injectors under the upper intake manifold the wire harnessses are different from one model to the other but the basic engine is exactly the same. Also the rear exhaust manifold may be different from model as well. Good luck :)
