Pontiac Repair: engine dies, no oil to valves., pontiac grand am, oil pan

Question
I have 2000 Pontiac grand am with an auto and 3300 engine. It shows approx. 140,000 miles. It had a recent tune up and oil change and a new water pump. However last week it quit and when I try to start it, it barely runs then dies out and apparently oil isn't getting to the valves, it staying in the oil pan. What could be the cause (causes)?

Answer
Hi
How do you know oil is not getting to the valves?
The amount of oil that actually reached the valves is VERY minimual and it does take a few minutes for it to get up there.
I would recommend starting to look in other areas for the stalling.
Oil not getting to valves should not cause this UNLESS there was a prior fault...even then that would be a long shot.
To answer question, oil pump could cause this. Faulty lifters. Plugged oil gallerys. Plugged push rods.
Good Luck
