Question

Answer
Hi Michael:

No if you just replace the switch you will be okay. If you replace the lock cylinder then yes it will mess up the passlock system if it has one. I depends on the type of car you have. some have pass lock some have pass key. passlock is on a grand am or sunfire. paskey is on a bonneville, grandprix, montana the original paskey system on a older grand prix or firebird that is a major issue if you replace the lock cyclinder with a used one. to tell you the truth for the trouble you have to go through to get one from a junk yard and most of them will not let you take a part out of a good steering column anyways. your better off getting one form the dealer they are not expensive and at least you know you have a good one for a littl while at least. if you let me know what model and year you have I can tell you if it's an issue or not.
