Pontiac Repair: 97 PONTIAC TUNRS OVER BUT WONT START, crank shaft position sensor, pontiac firebird

Question
I have a 97 Pontiac firebird,automatic,v6. It seems to happen when I drive around for awhile, let it sit for awhile and try and start it again it just turns over, wont stutter or anything. Stuck a nail in one of the plug wires, and no spark.  If I let it sit longer it will fire up like nothing  happend.  It wouldnt be to bad if just died and I could try and do some back tracking. but when I try then it will just fire up. PAIN IN THE ASS. Thanks in advance

Answer
Hey Jordan:

Well first off invest in a spark checker a nail is not a good test tool. If indeed you have no park you have either an ignition module issue or a crank shaft position sensor issue. If this is a 3.8 V6 the sensor is a likely canidate for the problem. But you need a service manual to poeprly check it out. And when it does act up you will be able to follow the flow chart to find out what is actaully causing the issue. If you have spark you may have an issue for low or no fule pressure causing the problem. Check the fuel pressure as well when it doesn't start. Good luck :)
