Pontiac Repair: 2002 Pontiac Bonneville oil pan replacement, pontiac bonneville, gm service

Question
I recently hit a rock in my 2002 Pontiac Bonneville (Series 2 3800 V-6) and cracked the oil pan. Some people tell I will have to unbolt the transmission to remove the oil pan-others say I will practically have to remove the engine to get the pan off. Looking at the pan it seems I could remove it without doing that-just looking for advice before I get in over my head. Thanks for any help! David

Answer
Hi
It is just removed without any other component removal.
There is the Pick up tube inside the pan which MUST be removed WITH the pan when it is dropped down.
Here is the EXACT procedure from GM Service info.....

Drain the engine oil.
Remove the right engine mount bracket.
{{{{{{{Raise and support the vehicle.
Remove the right front fascia extension.
Support the engine assembly with a suitable jack.
Remove the nut securing the right engine mount to the right engine mount bracket.
Lower the jack allowing the engine to lower slightly.
Remove the three fasteners securing the right engine mount bracket to the engine.
Remove the right engine mount bracket stud.
Remove the right engine mount bracket. }}}}}}}}}}}
Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from engine oil level sensor.
Remove the engine oil level sensor from the oil pan.
Remove the torque converter cover.
Remove the oil pan bolts.
Remove the oil pan.
Remove the oil pump pipe and screen.
{{{{{{{{Remove the oil pump pipe screen bolts.
Remove the oil pump screen.
Remove the gasket.
Use solvent in order to clean the screen and the housing. Blow dry the screen and the housing.
Clean the gasket mating surfaces}}}}}}}}}}
Clean the cylinder block mating surfaces.

Items in {{{{}}}} are substeps.
I Hope this helps.
Good luck
