Land Rover Repair: transmission, transmission control unit, zf transmissions

Question
When i was driving my land rover it went into third gear and would not shift out. Every now and then it will shift out of third gear and it will run and shift perfect. But i notice when its stuck in third that the manual and sport mode gear lights under my spedometer are flashing. Do you know why its going into third gear and staying there? And do you know why the manual and sport gear Symbols and the dash are flashing all the time?

Your Rover has an electronically controlled transmission.  I am sorry to say, when I have seen that in the past, it has usually meant something has gone wrong inside the transmission and it has to be overhauled.  You are going to need a shop with experience working on ZF transmissions, and they will need a T4 or Autologic system to talk to the transmission control unit.  That is beyond the capability of most corner tranny shops, so I encourage you to look for a qualified shop now, while the vehicle is still driveable
