Pontiac Repair: 1995 Bonneville dies for no apparent reason, pontiac bonneville, cigarette lighter

Question
I have a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville with a 155,000 miles, 3800 engine was replaced at 100,000. You will just be driving along and for no apparent reason the the car just dies. Motor, lights, fan, radio, everything just shuts off. Fortunately, once it sits for a couple of minutes it does restart as though there is nothing wrong. This has happened twice during warmer weather and again now in colder weather. I have taken it to a shop and they can't find anything wrong with the car. No error codes, fuel pump (1 year old), battery and cables, alternator, etc all check out ok. I have even talked to my local Pontiac dealership and they say if there are no error codes they won't be able to fix it. The shop did find a bad cigarette lighter which they replaced but they don't think this is the source of the problem. Also, we have had a problem with the air conditioner/heater shutting off intermittently. Any sugestions? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Nancy:

Wow you have a lot of issues with this car.. I would be willing to bet they are all tied together though. I would look long and hard at the battery connections. that car has 2 cables stacked together on the (+) post of the battery if you have corrosion in between the cables and the battery that would certainly do all of this. if not then I would look at the ignition switch and it's contacts the fact that all of the electrical accessories cut out would be a good clue to a power supply issue. It could also have a bad ground on the body or engine block. Just a few ideas. Good luck
