Pontiac Repair: 2001 Poniac Grand Am, poniac, shifter knob

My gear shifter button came out ( manual trans). So I cannot shif out of park, my shifter is on the floor inbetween driver and pass. seat. Is there a by-pass button or switch if so where is it located I cant find one anywhere.  Thank you   -Joe

Hey Joe:

You lost me here. What Button on the shifter? the Knob on top of the shifter? A manual transmission doesn't have a "Park" do you have an automatic transmission and the button you push to release the shifter out of park broke off? If this is the case there is a small retainer at the bottom of the shifter knob pull that retainer out it's horse shoe shaped and then pull the knob off the top of the shifter. There is a white piece of plastic sticking out the top of the shifter press down on that and that will release the shifter out of "park" I hope this is you problem???? but to answer you no there is no By-pass switch on any transmission shifter on this car..
