Pontiac Repair: 97 grand prix, idle goes crazy, mass air flow sensors, air flow sensors

Question
Its a 97 grand prix gt with the 3.8l v6.  The engine will sometimes go crazy at idle, spitting and sputtering to no end.  The thing is it doesn't do it all the time.  When it idles right it sounds great.  Then all of a sudden, it goes nuts.  It doesn't matter what temp the engine is, sometimes it does it when it's cold in the morning.  Sometimes you can let the car idle for a while and nothing.  When it does finally right itself, Theres allot of clicking like sensors or something finally getting right.  And if you try to drive it when its messing up, once you get the engine revved up it goes great.  I have been told allot of things, anywhere from the o2 sensor to the fuel pump.  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Well James, It could be a whole lot of things. does the service engine light come on? if it does that's a place to start. Any trouble codes help in trying find the problem. I have seen mass air flow sensors go bad and cause this problem but that is an expensive part to just try.... Maybe you have a bad/loose ground or a bad connection at the battery (-) or (+) this is a really tough question without seeing the car  I can't give you a straight answer other than the noises you hear and clicking it sort of leads me to a power supply issue or maybe some sort of a computer issue.. One last thing to check is this there is an engine harness that runs along the front of the engine I have seen that harness rub up against the a/c lines and chafe the harness take a look at that by the transmission.. Hope that helps..
