Pontiac Repair: special engine coolant fill, grand prix gtp, pontiac grand prix gtp

Question
Hi i have a 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with 3.4 litre engine and i had to pull the radiator out to fix a crack on the plastic side behind the upper rad hose and when i was about to fill the rad back up i had noticed a tag on the body stating (FAILURE TO FOLLOW SPECIAL FILL PROCEDURE COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE...) If you know what this special fill procedure is could you please let me know as soon as possible  thank you...

Answer
Hey Steve:

Heres the deal The radiator on that car and most new cars sits lower that the engine so the air gets trapped inside the engine and it's hard to get it out. On that engine there is either one or two air bleed screws. One on the upper radiator hose at the lower intake manifold where the thermostat is located and one on the heater bypass hose that is on the front of the engine. If that year doesn't have the bleeder screw then take the one heater hose off that runs along the frame and attaches to the front of the engine. Once you do that slowly fill the radiator back up until the air escapes out the bleeds or the hose. then close the bleeders and or re attach the hose. start the engine up and keep an eye on the temp gauge and make sure the coolant stays pretty full in the radiator. You may have to try this a few times until you get out all of the air. There is a special tool you can get that is a spout that attaches to the radiator where the cap goes on to extend the radiator up over top of the engine. That in a nut shell is the procedure it's not word for word but you get the idea. Just make sure you don't overheat the engine!
Good luck :)
