Pontiac Repair: 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix SE, pontiac grand prix, ebay user

Question
Both Passenger and Driver door windows do not work.  You can hear the motors going when the button is pushed, but no movement.  I have to pull them to go down or up and keep them taped so they don't vibrate down when on the Freeway.
What has happened? Is it a cable?  Have the windows fallen of track? I attempted to try and get to the bottom of this, but was unsuccessful. Any help in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Yup, The cables either came off the track in the regulators or the cables broke altogether. After 11 years the cables rust and eventually they break. Hopefuly it's just the regulators you need I have seen the plastic tabs that the regulators attach to pull off the windows as well. Unfortunately these are a dealer only part. So you will have to shell out some $ to buy the parts. I would say they are at least $200.00 each and the last time I replaced one, the motor was part of the regulator which made the price even higher. Sorry to to be the barer of bad news. While your there buy a hand full of the little plastic door trim retainers as well you'll break off some of them when you take the inner door trim off. "they always break" Also to answer your question the windows are not off track the cables keep the pressure on the window to keep it up. I had a second thought. Try this link.

If your an ebay user you may want to try your luck at one of these. I'm sure there China made junk but if you have to replace a few of them at least they are less the the original equipment...
