Pontiac Repair: 1998 Sunfire, mode cycle, security light

QUESTION: The problem with my car is that I will turn the ignition to start it and it will only run for a few seconds and then shut off.  This only happened recently.  Any suggestions to the problem with my car?

What is the "security" light on the cluster doing? On steady, flashing or does it come on for a few seconds, then go off?

Try this
During the long tamper mode cycle, the THEFT indicator will flash or stay on steady for the full 10 minutes. The instrument cluster and the PCM require the full 10 minutes in order to complete the learn cycle. Ensure that the ignition switch remains in RUN until the indicator stops flashing. If you turn the ignition switch before the indicator turns off, repeat the long tamper cycle from the beginning.
