Pontiac Repair: 1996 Pontaic Grand Prix, pontaic grand prix, drain coolant

Question
I bought a 1996 Grand Prix for my son's first car. It has a blown engine and I have one to put in it. Can you give me some installation tips and/or a wiring diagram for this 3.1 engine? Thanks

Answer
Hi
Here is the ALLDATA procedure for repalcement of engine assy.
I would also replace the lower intake gaskets on the new engine BEFORE installing it in car.
Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain coolant and engine oil.
Relieve fuel pressure as outlined under Fuel Pressure Relief . Under Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/System Diagnosis/Procedures/Diagnostic Charts/A Charts/Chart A-7 Fuel System Diagnosis .
Scribe alignment marks, then remove hood.
Remove air flow tube from air cleaner and throttle valve, then the air cleaner assembly.
Remove transaxle filler tube assembly.
Disconnect necessary electrical wiring, then the throttle and TV cables.
Remove engine mount strut bracket.
Disconnect fuel lines.
Remove AIR pump belt, then the serpentine drive belt cover and belt.
Disconnect radiator hoses at engine.
Remove A/C compressor bolts from front bracket.
Remove power steering pump and position aside.
Disconnect heater hoses from engine.
Disconnect brake booster vacuum supply line.
Disconnect EGR from exhaust.
Raise and support vehicle.
Remove starter motor assembly.
Remove A/C compressor bolts at rear bracket, then position compressor aside.
Remove flywheel cover, then disconnect starter and position aside.
Remove torque converter bolts, then the transaxle mount bracket.
Remove engine front mount retaining nuts.
Disconnect exhaust pipe at crossover, then lower vehicle.
Remove coolant recovery bottle.
Disconnect accelerator control cable bracket and move assemblies aside.
Disconnect crossover pipe at left manifold.
Remove serpentine belt, then the alternator.
Remove power steering pump assembly.
Remove plastic cover from front shock tower, then remove automatic transaxle modulator pipe assembly.
Pull engine assembly forward and support in this position.
Disconnect crossover pipe at right manifold.
Disconnect bulkhead connector.
Remove engine support and allow engine to roll to normal position.
Remove engine to transaxle attaching bolts, attach lifting device to engine and support transaxle.
Remove engine assembly.
Reverse procedure to install.
