Pontiac Repair: Ignition, spilled liquids, transmission lock

Question
2005 Grand Am, V6:  When I first start the car in the morning It has to warm up for about 5 minutes before the gear shift (automatic) unlocks, and sticks during the day.  Is this common among these cars, just got it.  What to do?

Answer
Hi
Not common on this particular vehicle.
I do see where it looks like the only fault could be the shifter assembely.
It houses the Transmission Lock Control actuator.
You may want to attempt to really clean the shifter good, remove it just to make sure there is no build up of spilled liquids (Soft drinks) that has gummed up the actuator rod. I have run into this before, Drinks spill down there and the syrup gets REALLY sticky and gummy.
I hope this helps.
JUST ADVICE from experience.
Good luck
