Pontiac Repair: Temperature Sensor & Thermostat, mitchel on demand, chevy malibu

Question
95 Pontiac Grand Am 2.3 Litre Quad 4

Can you please tell us if the temperature gauge not working pertains to the Temperature Sensor needing to be replaced. Also, We can not find where the temperature sensor plugs into. And could the reason for the car spitting, sputtering and oil pressure dropping be due to us taking the guts out of the Cataletic Convertor so that we could start the car. We would appreciate some advise on to where to find engine diagrams on line for this car as well as a 97 Chevy Malibu LS.

Answer
Hi
Your vehicle has 2 temp sensors.
One operates the gauge one is an input for the ECM (Engine Control Module).
The one for the gauge is a single green wire and is located on the back of the engine around where the radiator hose goes on top. Where your plug is, You'll have to find it.
The other has a yellow and black wire and also is located on rear of engine in the same area.
Spitting, sputtering... I would recommend a Major tune up, plugs, wires and springs, fuel filter, air filter and replace the Coil housing.
Oil pressure.. may be due to the engine spitting/sputtering.
Engine diagrams... All I know of are subscription eg.. AllData or Mitchel on Demand.
Good Luck
