Pontiac Repair: 89 pontiac grand prix se v6 2.8, pontiac grand prix, power steering fluid

Question
while driving my car the other day, white smoke started coming from the hood. i checked and there was oil leaking underneath, looked like the oil pan. there was no coolant, just oil. the car starts and runs fine, but the sterring wheel got a little hard, or had a grinding noise when turning. it never did that before/ Looks like the car was overheating. im scareed to drive it anywhere, and while parked over night, it leaked alot of oil. do you have suggestions as to what can cause this, and how to fix it? thanks. ps. i have changed the alternator in it recently, and the battery, im not sure if that would have anything to do with it. and the car was sitting for over 1 year, i just bought it and trying to fix it up.

Answer
Hi
From what you have stated, it sounds like the fluid leak is Power Steering Fluid.
It could be leaking from either the pump or better yet, the high pressure line.
I would put fluid in it, start it  and watch for the leak.
Then repair as necessary.
Just advice from experience.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck
