Pontiac Repair: Ponitac grandam, negative battery cable, lock cylinder

QUESTION: I had to buy a new iginition for my 1999 Pontiac Grand a two door, 6 cyclider and I took the dash apart and removed the radio and now I am at a loss for figure out how to get the part installed I cant figure out how to remove the old iginition I was wondering if you were able to at all explain this to me as to I have no one to work on my car and trying to do it myself

QUESTION: I am replacing the ignition electrical switch the whole thing I had the dash apart and the radio out but I wasn't able to get the old out to replace with the new

Hi
Here is the service procedure, less pics.


1)Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2)Remove the instrument panel (I/P) accessory trim plate.
3)Remove the I/P cluster.
4)Remove the bolts from ignition switch.
5)Reposition the ignition switch for ease of removal.
6)Insert the key and turn the ignition lock cylinder to the ON/RUN position.
7)Depress the transaxle park/lock cable retainer to release, then pull to remove the park/lock cable from the ignition switch.
8)Perform the following procedure to remove the ignition lock cylinder from the ignition switch:
8.1.  Depress and hold the ignition lock cylinder detent.
8.2.  Turn the key to the ON/RUN position.
8.3.  Pull the ignition lock cylinder out with the key.
Important: Remove the ignition lock cylinder before you remove the Passlock™ electrical connector.
9)Disconnect the Passlock™ electrical connector from the ignition switch.
10)Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition switch.
11)Remove the ignition switch through the I/P cluster opening.
