Pontiac Repair: Accelerator Sticks, pontiac firebird, throttle plate

Question
We have a 1996 Pontiac Firebird with a v-6 no cruise-control, automatic Trans and with AC. When we accelerate up to about 35 to 45 the accelerator will not return to slow up and we have to push hard on the brakes to get it to slow up. it also wants to speed up on us too. someone told me it was a motor mount on left side i do not think that is it? Can you help us i hope so. Thanks Ed

Answer
ok well first off let isolate the throttle body, search or get reference to find where the cable from the accelerator connects to the throttle body, remove the clip holding the throttle cable to the throttle body, start it up and see if you still ahve a sticking throttle, if not repalce the cable as its prob frayed on the inside or in a bind, check the smooth operation of it with it unconnected from the engine,, if while the cable is disconnected from the motor, the engine rpm still is sticking then check operation of the throttle body, check to see that the throttle plate, the large circle thingy inside the throttle body is going shut, clean the throttle body with a good carb cleaner in aresol can, let me know what you find
