Motorcycle Repair: Rear Wheel, kymco zing, crank wheel

Question
I am in Taiwan right now.  When I was riding back to my place today the rear wheel started making a lot of noise just as i was stopping.  It appears the crank wheel? (the part that attatches the chain to the rear wheel) has come loose, it has a lot of movement. It is still in the correct place and the chain still has tension, but it wobbles. I can position it so that it doesn't contact the frame, thus no noise or problem, but i am not really comfortable driving it like this.

My question is, should i get some tools and try to fix it myself? or is there anyway i can rig it up so i can drive it a short distance to get it to a shop.  I am up in the mountains so it is not so easy to push the bike for any distance.

It is an old bike, 95 Kymco Zing. The rear brakes are drum brakes and it has a center stand. I only bought the bike two months ago so I don't know much else about it's history.

Answer
Hi Marc,

I encourage home repair and maintenance. However, you may overlook something an experienced eye would find.

Look for obvious signs of wear on the suspect parts. metal to metal contact or other wear may be present.

It's best to have a local shop perform the work unless you're experienced enough to make the motorcycle safe for operation.
