Pontiac Repair: Fuel Filter/ Fuel Pump, fuel pressure regulator, pontiac grand prix

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1L V6 with 126,000 miles on it.  I have been experiencing minor problems with rough Idling (rpms go from 500 to 1100).  When I accelerate, the car will respond, but there will be brakes in the acceleration, as if it was struggling to accelerate, but then other times the engine will run O.K.  I was hoping you could tell me some stuff I could check.  I have a buddy that is in an automotive school and he says that I should look into getting my Fuel Filter replaced if not my Fuel pump.  If it is the Fuel pump or filter, I was hoping you could tell me where they are so I can replace them.  Thanks in advance for your help.
ANSWER: Hi Scott-
I would recommend, that you consider a Major tune up, which includes a Fuel Filter, Spark Plugs, Plug Wires, Air Filter, Throttle Bore cleaning, Injector flush clean.
If you decide to do some or all of it, the fuel filter is located under the car, to the rear on the drivers side around where the suspension is the the drivers side rear wheel.
I would before you dropped the money for a new fuel pump, have your friend check the fuel pressure with his gauge, and also check the Fuel pressure regulator make sure ther is NO FUEL in the vacuum line.
If so you'll need to replace that.
I Hope this helps
Just advise from experience
Good Luck

QUESTION: Hello again, thanks for all the great advice, just have another question.  Been racking my brain trying to search the internet, i was looking for the fuel pump on the 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1L  V6.  I am seriously looking into a Major tune up, although quite costly.  I have problems with my evaporator core also, must debate if worth it. Just wondering about the location of the fuel pump.  Thanks in advace.

Answer
Hi
I'm sorry I thought I put it in original post, my bad.
Fuel pump is located INSIDE the fuel tank.
On your vehicle the fuel tank will have to be removed for service of fuel pump.
Again, I am sorry, I thought I put location in original post.
Good Luck
