Pontiac Repair: 95 grand prix starts sometimes and chugs, solonoid, battery connection

Question
My 95 grand prix chugs during highway driving like its rocking between drive and overdrive and can't make up its mind about which it wants to be in.  And a few days ago, it wouldn't start.  No turnover at all.  At first I though it was the battery, but now it starts, but sometimes after about 5 or 6 attempts.  What is going on?  On top of all this, my exhaust has also been spitting out black hair-it is not an animal-it is hair like material.  There has been at least 2 wigs worth that has come out now.  What is this?  Fiberglass?  Please help.

Answer
Hi.
Sounds like your engine MAY be running rich, too much fuel or not enough air. You may have a cylinder or 2 misfiring or not firing at all, which would be a rich condition.

I would consider a major tune up, Spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, throttle cleaning, injector flush.

That would be the black fibers, I'm not exactly sure how it forms, but I have seen it before.

The starting I would get checked out, may be anything from a faulty battery connection to a starter.
The "chuggle" there again, you should get it checked out be a local mechanic you trust. They can hook a scan tool to the computer system of the car, and watch the data see if it is the TCC Solonoid or a misfire. A misfire will also cause the "chuggle" also.
Just advise from experience.
Hope it helps.
Good Luck
