Land Rover Repair: engine noise, chevron techron, fuel additive

my 2003 disco has always had a noise when accelerating that reminds me of a diesel.  However recently the noise has become more pronounced when I accelerate.  This noise is not there when idling or at cruising but only accelerating. The service engine light had come on also but would also go back off after a few days.  I put some chevron techron in the fuel and the light went off and has not come back on.  Could the noise come from the valves and would the techron help or do you think it might be from something else?

Hi John,

the Techron fuel additive may have helped this time but the underlying problem may become worse.  Sounds to me like an ignition related problem and the engine should be analyzed on a Testbook device from a dealer or an independent LR shop with the right equipment.  Could be an  injector, sensor or even intake related problem.
