Pontiac Repair: 1998 Pontiac Sunfire Overheating, cooling fan system, head gasket

Question
Well I am stumped. I have a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire (2.2L) that is overheating. Here is a list of new parts, Radiator, Head, Head gasket, Water pump, Thermostat, and Temperature Sending Unit. And i have bled the system 3 times. The only thing NOT new is the hoses. It's weird because the car will idle all day long at normal temp, but when I take even a short drive the temp starts rising almost instantly. Even with the gauge reading almost in the yellow, the coolant in the reservoir isn't bubbling, but it is hot. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks,
Will

Answer
Hi
Does the cooling fan come on?
If so does it seem to be running at a fast speed.
If not you need to get the cooling fan system diagnosed.
You may also want to have the gauge checked to make sure it is reading correct.
Take it to a shop and have them watch the data on a scan tool. Watch the temp on data stream and see if it seems to be close to same as gauge.
Watch the temp and the cooling fans, see if they come on at anywhere from 220-240*F and off at 180-200*F ( These temps vary greatly they should use published material for EXACT temp readings).
These are the items I would check first.
Just advise from experience.
Good Luck
