Pontiac Repair: 93 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl., oil dipstick, manifold gaskets

Question
Last night my engine temp skyrocketed on the way to the store.   After leaving it overnight, I looked in my coolant reservoir and found that it was near empty with a brownish residue coating the inner walls.  Also, the grille of my radiator had spots of antifreeze within dripping off of it, as if it were leaking from within.  Additionally, my oil dipstick is covered with a milkshake-like residue and is down about half a quart.  A friend of mine is more into German cars but thinks the culprit might be a gasket in need of replacement or a piston ring that wore down, as my exhaust is a dark blue smoke.  I don't know much about cars, so I dropped it off in the middle of the night at a shop.  What are the potential problems my car is facing??  Help!

Answer
Hi
Taken for granted you have a 3.1L engine I would suspect the Lower Intake Manifold gaskets are leaking. This is a VERY common problem for the 3.1L. I would have them also preform a crankcase system flush, to remove all the coolant contaminated oil (milkshake). That is ONLY a guess.
Repairs may run into the $700.00 range give or take labor rates in your area, brand parts used, etc...
Just a suggestion from experience
Good Luck
