Pontiac Repair: Spark plug well, metal shavings, heli coil

1999 pontiac sunfire 4 cylinder 2.2lt
It seems that the spark plug well in the engine block is striped out, I cannot get the plug to stay tight in the well. Can this be fixed without having to rebuild the engine or junking the car?

Yes.
There are a few things that can be done.
Easiest would be to get a Heli Coil installed in the stripped out plug hole.
The Heli Coil is thread repair kit that is new threads installed in head.
Another thing to consider would be to have the Cylinder head removed and have the hole retapped. You may consider having the Cyl Head removed for either job to limit the possibility of metal shavings going into Cylinder.
