Pontiac Repair: No ignition?, lock cylinder, engine computer

Question
QUESTION: 2002 Pontiac T/A with 5.7L - auto.
When I turn the key everything powers on, but the engine does not fire up.  Radio, lights turn on but the engine doesn't even crank.  No codes on the dash, no codes when hooked up to diag.  Does it about every 2 months. Doing it right now.

ANSWER: Hi Richard:

sounds like an issue with the pass key security system. either it's not reading the key or the relay for the starter is not being commanded on by the paskey module. does the security lamp come on or is is flashing while it will not crank. I take it it will not crank over when you say it will not run. if it cranks but will not start it can be a whole lot of issues. If there was an issue withe the pas key system a code may not show up in the engine computer it depends on what part of that system failed. good luck :}

QUESTION: I had my car towed to the dealer and he said the car fired right up, with no codes for the pass key security, could it have a short somewhere?

Answer
I doubt it. but without actually having it do it for someone to actually see what's going on it's impossible to say what's going on. let them keep the car and keep driving it and see if they can duplicate the issue but most of the time with these cars the problem is in  the pas key lock cylinder and the security lamp comes on or is flashing that is a dead give away as to the problme but if it's not doing it it's a crap shoot as to what the problem is. good luck :}
