Pontiac Repair: tire repair, potiac, axle nut

My 1997 Potiac Sunfire needs tire mount repair after lug nut loosened and tire almost fell off on the freeway.  How do I remove the plate behind the bolts in order to get the old studs out and the new ones in?  We have removed the rotor and the axle nut, but the Plate the studs are mounted into won't come off.  Thanks for your Help...Donna

That "plate" you are refering to is part of the front bearing assembly and does not just come off. Reinstall the axle nut as this was not neccessary to remove it. The studs are easily replaced by pounding them out with a hammer and then sucking the new one into place using the lug nut and a few washers.
