Pontiac Repair: pontiac 2004 brakes, pontiac grandam, caliper piston

Question
I have a 2004 pontiac grandam se. It makes a grinding noise whenever I step on the brakes to come to a stop. Is this just the brake pads or would I need to get the entire brake system done?

Answer
Grinding is never a good noise. If they are this far then you need brakes now! Then minimum you will be looking at is the pads and machining the rotors, but more than likely the rotors are now damaged to the point of no return and will have to be replaced. If you keep going you will certainly do even more damage, even to the point that your brakes will fail due to the caliper piston popping out of place. This could cause an accident which is far more costly than a brake job. Please take your car in for service now and you will minimize not only the cost, but the risk you are taking with your life and the lives around you on the road.
