Pontiac Repair: 93 Grand prix, rear brakes, emergency brake

Question
I have a 93 grand prix and the brakes need replaced.  I have done some research and found that the bake system on this car is a bad design.  The rear brakes are frozen and was wondering when i go to replace the caliper and rotor is there anything I can do to keep the calipers from freezing or keeping rust of the slides?

Answer
Yes these cars are famous for the rear brakes having problems. The best thing you can do is to use the emergency brake EVERY time you park the car. This keeps the mechanism working, keeps the brakes adjusted and moving properly. If they are always adjusted and moving, the don't have the chance to rust up the sliders as easily, but using s little anti-seize on the slides during assebly will help. The silver stuff works great, don't use something like regular grease because that will make things worse by swelling the rubber. Will this stop them from going bad? No, but it will greatly lengthen the life of the system including the fronts because then they aren't overworked. Hope this helps and good luck :)
