Pontiac Repair: 1993 firebird cooling fan, performance websites, stock system

Question
I have a 1993 Firebird.The cooling fan has stopped coming on and the car is running hot (230).When I plug in a code reader the fan comes on. Any ideas?

it is probably a relay or the temperature sensor.you can purchase an aftermarket fan switch kit that bypasses the stock system and they are usually adjustable.i have seen them on firebird performance websites.i dont know why the fan comes on when you plug in the scanner.maybe it grounds the switch?
