Pontiac Repair: Intake manifold leak, intake manifold gasket, words of wisdom

Question
-------------------------
Followup To I appreciate your response.  And I am getting ready to do this job.  Is there any other words of wisdom you can offer?  Is it necessary to use any kind of gasket sealant at all?  It looks like I can buy the gaskets for the upper and lower intake for @ $85.  Not bad considering I was given a $500 plus estimate to have it done...Thanks again for your help.

Followup To Sorry I failed to mention it is a 3800, and it is a GT not a GTP>
Question -
The intake manifold gasket is leaking on my '97 Gran Prix. @ 100k miles on it, and no other major problems as far as history goes, I bought the car brand new.  The shop I took it to showed me the oil leak, and that it was only a matter of time before the coolant starts to leak.  I am considering doing this job myself, is there anything to watch for, or advice you could give me?  Anything worth doing while I am in there?  Also, on the intake manifold is written "hidden bolts".  What does THAT mean?  Any advice would be very appreciated.  Thanks.

im not sure what engine you have but removing the intake is a pretty extensive job.if you can tell me what engine,i can give more info :>..
Answer -
first of all get ready to spend.if i remember its $40.00 for the lower intake manifold and another 20 for the upper.the intake on the series 2 engine is 2 pieces not sure about other.i replaced gaskets on 3800 series 2 in a firebird and that is a chore considering half the engine is under the dash.i got some stuff from the parts store but those hard to find o rings and such i went to the dealership.going to the dealership/gm should save u alot of running around hunting parts.i would purchase a good manual on your vehicle it will help alot.the 2 piece intakes have bolts inside the second half/you have to take off the top to get to them, then remove the bottom.best advice keep everything clean.less trash in the engine less problems later.doing this job yourself will save you alot of cash and youll need it for gas :> <good luck>

Answer
the gasket set i purchased was felpro and came with some black sealant.it also had some instructions that helped.i would also purchase some new fuel injector o rings.these are sold seperately and are money well spent to prevent trouble and leaks down the road.
