Pontiac Repair: 1993 transport A/C, ac compressors, pontiac transport

Question
I have a 1993 Pontiac Transport with a 3800 engine.
It has no A/C. The compressor does not kick in when A/C button is pushed in car.
Failed last fall. During the winter I replaced the batery and noticed a burnt wire coming from the bolt type terminal in the upper right side of engine compartment. This bolt type terminal also has about four other wires coming from it. I soldered a small piece of wire to replace it(18 guage stranded).
any ideas? My wife's car and it's getting warm in Wisconsin (finallly.

Answer
Hi,David

The terminal is your power junction block and uses fusible links instead of fuses,if a wire was burned then there was a short in that ckt,as far as the ac not working,it could possibly be low on refrig, have the ac sys checked for leaks,or a failed compressor, ive seen more failed ac compressors than anything else, you can attempt to see if the compressor kicks on by jumpering the low pressure switch, this switch is located on the accumulator,it looks like a large metal/silver can, follow the big ac hose to it,on the side is a switch,a 2 wire connector, remove the connector and jumper the 2 wires with the key on and listen for the ac compressor clutch clicking on,or you can run the engine and do the same, and look for the compressor kicking on.
