Pontiac Repair: 97 Grand Prix DIC and heat control center, rear window defogger, daytime running lights

Question
I have a 1997 Grand Prix that has a strange problem. When I start the vehicle, put it in gear, and release the parking brake the daytime running lights come and then start blinking. I can hear the relay clicking off an on. Hear is the strange part. The heater blower control, rear window defogger and A/C buttons do not work anything. But when the heater switch is in the off position the daytime running lights do the blinking, when I turn the switch to 1 the headlights go out put the parking lights stay on. During this time the DIC is not on at all. I checked the fuses, they are all good. Checked what grounds I could find related to this circuit. This just happened over night. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Hi,Chris

Sounds like you have a power feed problem, check the battery cable connections, also check the positive battery lead that goes from the battery to the underhood electrical center, just trace the smaller positive wire to the center, make sure its clean and tight, also check the 60A maxifuse for the headlamps, this fuse controls both headlamps and HVAC control, pull the fuse out and check for burned terminals or melting,i believe your problem is at that electrical center.
