Pontiac Repair: car wont start, michael manley, alero

Question
My wife has a Pontiac Alero 2002 and we are having a problem.

When we try to start the car, the lights inside and out go all the way out while trying to start it.  We just had a new battery installed less than a month ago. Could this be the distributor, sparks plugs, alternator, or starter?

Please help!
Michael Manley

Answer
Hi,  check the connection at the battery they could be loose, also check the volts at the battery there should be 12volts, if you don't have the 12 volts then the battery is weak, and need to be charged up, if you have the 12volts at the battery, then it would be in the starter. the sparks plugs or the distributor would not stop it from turning over.
