Pontiac Repair: 1996 grand am gt starting problem, fuel pump, gt 2

Question
I have a 1996 grand am gt 2.4L and as of yesterday it would not start.  It turns over, then kills right away and I cannot get it to stay started.  Also, this may be related or not, the engine kind of sputters when I drive between 50 and 60 mph.  My guess is the fuel pump, but I was told it could be an ignition problem.  Please help me out. Thanks

Answer
Hi, it sound like the fuel pump. turn the key on and listing for the fuel pump to come at the fuel tank, it should run for about 3sce then cut off. This is when the engine is not running. A vacuumn leak can cause this, check for a loose vacuumn line. If this is ok, then it could be in the ignition. Have the coil housing checked, most of the time the coil housing is what goes out.
