Pontiac Repair: Hood Release Problem, release button, pliers

I know your Pontiac but hopefully you can help me out. I have a 96 3.3L fwd Intrepid. Whenever I pull on the hood release button it goes click but doesnt release the hood. I dont think the wire is broken, but rather is just not pulling enuf to unlatch the hood. Any remedies? I've unscrewed the panel on the bottom of the door sill to get at the mechanism and it looks ok, should I maybe pull on the wire with some pliers? Or any other ways to get at it from under the hood maybe?

Hi, I would pull on it with the pliers. This would tell you if the wire is brok or not. Ifthe wier is brok. You can try this from under the front of the car look up and see if you see the latch. May have to remove a panel so you can see the latch. Hope this will help. Just not sure.
