Honda: 96 Honda Transmission Problem, honda transmission, honda tech

Question
I have 96 Honda accord with about 120K. It had an engine knock but otherwise drove fine and shifted fine. Once my mechanic replaced the engine the car feels like it's starting off in 3rd or 4th gear. There is no check engine light on either. The mechanic checked everything over again and couldn't find any problem. He replaced the transmission again with a different one and it's still doing the same thing. He had a honda tech come out and look at it that came to the conclusion the transmission is bad. This is hard to believe since the first one was shifting prior to replacing the engine and now the second one is doing the same thing. Any idea on what the problem might be?

Answer
Jared,

That's one heck of problem, I'll assume the car is an automatic. What you describe almost sounds like a car that had a bad torque converter. Does it start off fine but as you accelerate the RPM's on the Tachometer go way high (above 3000 RPMs and keeps going) and does not seem to shift up?

Check engine lights only monitors certain problems (oil pressure, certain electrical issues, transmission fluid pressure) but not all.

I really have flags waving out that you need a better mechanic, he either goofed the install when he re-installed the new engine and attached it to the transmission (Honda automatic transmissions are part manual) or he's in kahoots with this Honda Tech. Unless the Honda Tech separated the engine and transmission and personally inspected the components personally himself, there is no way he can make that call. How well do you know this mechanic?

Sorry to hear you are having this problem, but I would go find another mechanic.
