Pontiac Repair: blue smoke, valve seal, blue smoke

Question
Hi;
   I own a '79 Trans Am with the olds. 403 motor,the car smoke blue constantly especially when warmed up.what has to be done to remedy this situation? How can you tell if it is only the valve seal or the cylinder rings? The engine still moves quite well,feel powerfull,but upon start up it "ticks" until it warms up.

                                Thanks.tom

Answer
Hi, if it's smoking constantly with out stoping it's the rings. Now when you start the engine up and it gets warm and stop the smoking, this would be the valae seal.If it's the valves the head will have to come off. And put new valve seal in it. The tick is the valves not have oil at the time of start up. This is cause of a lifter leaking down. This would call for new lifters.
