Pontiac Repair: my pontiac, pontiac grand am, service engine soon light

Question
I own a 2001 Pontiac Grand AM, V6.  I no longer have a warranty on my vehicle.  Several weeks ago, my change oil light came on.  After getting an oil change, the light never did go off.  I even tried hitting the "reset" button.  Eventually, the "check system function" light," and the "service engine soon light came on."  Now, I am seeming to notice that I am having what could possibly be some transmission difficulty.  If I am stopped, and procede to take off, when my vehicle switches to 2nd gear(or about 15 mph), it gives a really forceful jerk.  It does it it frequently, but not every time.  And, it only does it after inital take off, switching to 2nd gear. If I am on the highway, I notice nothing!  But, when I tried to check the transmission fluid, I am unable to do so.  I have to take it to the dealer and be charged, and I do not even know that it is the "transmission."  Do you have any advise or suggestions?

Answer
First of all, you have to use the reset button to reset the oil life monitor after you change the oil. It will not do it by itself. If you are not sue how to do it, read the owners manual. Thats why they give it to you.
Now about the other problem that you are having. You need to have the system diagnosed. There are about two hundred codes that can be set when the light comes on and without knowing what code you have, I cant give you any advice on what the problem is. Sometimes when certain codes set, the transmission will shift hard because it is being told to by the computer even though it may not be a trans problem.
